Tank Setup:

• Size: A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a small group. Larger tanks are better for more fish or to provide a more natural environment.
• Water Conditions: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 6.0-7.5) and a temperature range of 68-75°F (20-24°C). Maintain good water quality with regular water changes.
• Filtration: Use a good filtration system to keep the water clean and well-oxygenated. A filter that creates gentle water flow is ideal, as strong currents might stress them.

Tank Environment:

• Substrate: A soft substrate like sand or fine gravel is preferable.
• Decor: Provide plenty of hiding spots using plants, driftwood, and rocks. They also enjoy swimming space, so avoid overcrowding the tank with decorations.
• Lighting: They don’t have special lighting needs, but a regular day/night cycle is beneficial.

Diet:

• Food Type: Rainbow shiners are omnivores. Feed them a varied diet of high-quality flake food, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like daphnia, bloodworms, and brine shrimp.
• Feeding Frequency: Feed them small amounts 1-2 times a day, ensuring they consume all the food within a few minutes.
