Pygmy Corydoras (often referred to as Corydoras pygmaeus are delightful, small catfish that make great additions to a community tank. Here’s a guide to keeping them healthy and happy:

Tank Setup

  1. Tank Size:

    • Minimum Size: 10 gallons. While they can live in smaller tanks, a larger tank provides a more stable environment and more space for them to explore.
  2. Water Parameters:

    • Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C). Keep the temperature stable to prevent stress.
    • pH: 6.0-7.5. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral water.
    • Hardness:
      • KH (Carbonate Hardness): 2-12 dKH
      • GH (General Hardness): 2-15 dGH
  3. Filtration:

    • Type: A sponge filter or a gentle canister filter is ideal. They prefer low to moderate water flow.
    • Flow Rate: Ensure the filter flow is gentle to avoid disturbing their environment.
  4. Substrate:

    • Type: Soft, sandy substrate is best. Avoid sharp or rough substrates that can injure their delicate barbels.
  5. Decorations:

    • Hiding Spots: Provide hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, and plants. Pygmy Corydoras enjoy having places to explore and hide.
    • Plants: Live plants, like Java Fern or Cryptocoryne, can enhance their environment and provide additional cover.

Feeding

  1. Diet:

    • Primary Food: High-quality sinking pellets or wafers designed for bottom-dwelling fish.
    • Supplemental Food: Offer a variety of foods including frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
  2. Feeding Frequency:

    • Amount: Feed 2-3 times a day. Provide small amounts of food to ensure they can consume it all without leftover waste.
