Albino Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus), also known as Albino Cory Cats, are a popular variety of the bronze corydoras. They are favored for their striking white coloration, red eyes, and peaceful, hardy nature. Here's a comprehensive guide on caring for Albino Corydoras:
Tank Size and Setup
- Tank Size: A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended, especially if keeping a small group. These fish are social and thrive in groups of at least 4-6 individuals.
- Substrate: Use a soft, sandy substrate to protect their sensitive barbels. Coarse gravel can damage their barbels, leading to infection.
- Plants: Live plants like Java moss, Anubias, and Amazon swords are great. They offer hiding spots and surfaces for biofilm, which corydoras like to nibble on.
- Decor: Include rocks, driftwood, and caves to provide hiding places and simulate their natural environment. Corydoras enjoy having places to explore and rest.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 72-78°F (22-26°C). They can tolerate a range of temperatures but prefer a stable, moderate range.
- pH: Neutral to slightly acidic, ideally between 6.5 and 7.5.
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, with a GH of 2-12 dGH.
- Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate: Keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm. Nitrates should be kept below 20 ppm to ensure good water quality.
Feeding
- Diet: Albino Corydoras are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Provide sinking pellets or wafers formulated for bottom feeders.
- Live/Frozen Foods: Supplement with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. These foods help provide protein and variety in their diet.
