Adolfoi corydoras (Corydoras adolfoi) are a type of peaceful, small freshwater catfish that are popular in the aquarium hobby due to their attractive markings and schooling behavior. Here’s a guide to help you care for Adolfoi corydoras:
Tank Size and Setup
- Tank Size: A minimum of 20 gallons is recommended, especially if keeping a small school of 6 or more. They are schooling fish and do best in groups.
- Substrate: Use soft, sandy substrate to prevent damage to their delicate barbels (whisker-like appendages). Gravel can be too rough and might lead to injury or infection.
- Plants: Live plants like Amazon swords, Java moss, and Java fern are great additions. Plants provide cover and help maintain good water quality.
- Decor: Include driftwood, rocks, and other decorations to create hiding spots and simulate their natural habitat. Corydoras are bottom dwellers and appreciate plenty of cover.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 72-79°F (22-26°C). A stable temperature is important for their health.
- pH: Slightly acidic to neutral, ideally between 6.0 and 7.5.
- Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, with a GH of 2-12 dGH.
- Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate: Keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm. Nitrates should be kept below 20 ppm to maintain water quality.
Feeding
- Diet: Adolfoi corydoras are omnivores. They will feed on sinking pellets, wafers, and tablets specifically designed for bottom feeders.
- Live/Frozen Foods: Supplement their diet with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia for variety and nutrition.
